soup bowl mod?

I have searched all over this site and cannot find instructions or a good description of the "soup bowl mod". What is it? details please.:shrug:

A soup bowl mod can be different things. Some drill extra holes in the side of the filter bowl for more air. I my self cut the whole side out of the filter bowl making it an open filter.

i took an air chisel & in less than 1 minute had the whole soup bowl out.

Usually it means removing the "soup bowl", the half circle attachment on the bottom of the air cleaner lid. It essentially is there for noise containment. It does well for restriction, like the poor 2.5" exhaust they used on these trucks stock, just plain poor planning. Not really much to write about, simply cut off the piece of crap off the bottom of the lid, and you're done. On my 86 though, it had no soup bowl, only a half size opening in the bottom of the air cleaner. i cut that out, and had better flow there. A simple restriction right in the air cleaner base...what the heck were the engineers thinking?

The workhorse: 86 F250 6.9 4 speed 4wd 4.10 gears, electric fuel pump
The other workhorse: 92 F350 2wd crew cab, 92 6BT Cummins, NV4500 and GV overdrive unit, 4.10 rear axle

Tell ya what, when it gets more steadily above 0 temps here, I got one to hack, and will do that for ya... that work?
