Question Questions about Ford window motors.

The window in our 96 F250 would not go up yesterday. Today I removed the door panel and pushed the button. I could hear the motor trying to work. I then smacked it with a body hammer and it started working again fine. I removed the motor and hooked it to a battery and it sounds good and works. Normally I would just replace it to be safe. However, we are under a serious budget restraint at the moment. I would prefer to find a reasonable alternative. Is there something I can do to “freshen” up this motor? If I lube the regulator real well would it make a difference? This is the first window motor I have worked on in years. SO I may need some reminding about a few things.

I have had a few of these and did a cheap fix. If you remove the three bolts that cover should come apart. In there the gears are kind of linked together with three plastic balls. Most of the time they are crushed and the motor will turn without turning the gear to lift the window. I just cleaned it all out and put some steel bearings in it grease it and it put it together . I'm sure there was a "safety" reason for the plastic balls but the steel ones work fine.

2001 Excursion W/ 4" turbo back, wicked wheel, diablo chip (50 hp & 100 hp), Zoo-dad mod , and some other free and inexpensive mods.

That is what I expected to find. However, this motor is different. I was able to clean nd lube everything and now it works like new.
