new diesel owner with a couple questions

got a 04 6.0 s/c F250. i dont want balls out power, or being able to tow a building behind it, heres what im lookin for:
able to be weekend warrior on the streets, able to tow my drag car with out hurting the gas milage too much, and get better gas milage.

also, tire sizes, what do most recommend not to hurt the shift points and speedo much?

I am a powerstroke tech at a ford dealership,in my opinion there are some mild chips out there that mainly increase fuel economy and also give a little power, they make good power stock and you can really ask for alot of problems uping the power-blown head gaskets, cracked heads, blown intercoolers etc. To do it right you need aftermarket heads with fire ring head gaskets and an intercooler upgrade which is big money. As far as tires the scan tools we use at the dealership will alow us to change for tire size, its calculated by how many revs the tires make in a mile and you can only adjust to about a 305 or315/75r16. Another thing about the 6.0 you absolutely have to change the fuel filters every 15k mi and only use good pump fuel-no red fuel or biodiesel the fuel injectors are very sensitive because they rely on fuel in the injector for a cushion so any dirty fuel or lack of fuel will quickly take out an injector. there is a reprogram avialable to help prevent spool valve sticking on cold start up I highly recomend having this done to help prevent injector problems-also use motorcraft oil, this is a heui engine meaning the oil is also used as a high pressure hydraulic fluid to build injection presssure inside the injector and it contains special additives and antifoam agents to withstand the demand placed on it-you can also use catipillars heui oil if you wish but its usually more expensive. This should help you to not make the common mistakes 6.0 owners make-also no power is gained by screwing with the air filter,it moves way more air than the engine desires, just replace the filter when the minder gauge starts to move.

For what you described in your post I think you would be very happy w/ a TS 5x Loader. There was a lot of talk about this when it launched in the 6.0L section. It has very nice drivable power. We have run one on an 05 6.0L for some time. Another downloader might be a Bullydog Triple Dog or Power pup.

How big do you plan on going w/ the tires? Must of the programmers do some trans tuning, and the added power will help if you don't go to large on the tires. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help.

i was thinking around 33x12.5x15" tires.

what about the SCT tuner? and would a 4" exhaust be better than 5"?

also, where does one get intercoolers for the truck? ive only seen the banks one.

Get a spearco intercooler from bbhunting of black widow performance. The SCT is a great programmer and you can get the tunes wrote exactly how you want them and be able to change between a few different ones. As long as you can keep your foot off the pedal most programmers will help out with the fuel mileage also.

Here's a good recipe

1. Gauges, Pyro, tranny, and boost
2. Exhaust, 4" turbo back If you live where they salt the roads go with SS if not the Auminized pipe will last as long as you own the truck
3. SCT Xcal2, best tunes avalable, best tranny controls, data logging...

01 F-250 SC PSD,210k,16 Isspro Gauges, AFE-2,CCV Mod,IAH delete,map reg,Modded H2e, 6.0 IC, GTS Hybrid injectors, Studs, 910 Valve springs, Forged rods Water injection,Swamps tuned, MBRP 4" dual's, Aero, 6" tip's, 100 axl tank, 4" Revtek lift, 37-14.50-17 TOYO MT's 469hp and 1068tq...

33" tall tires shouldn't throw off the trans that bad.

Banks, Hypermax, spearco. If your just adding a tuner and exhaust I think you could save your money on the intercooler. Depending on what you are looking to do down the road.

What I put on the above post is what you need for good HP boost, good towing manners and better MPG.

The 6.0 does not need a intake, at least not until you really step up. Get some gauges, and exhaust. Then look for a good tuner.
