New to Ford Diesels..

I am actually looking for a Ford F250 now and was wanting to know if there is anything I should look for and/or avoid. I have been looking at a few 1999's but they both have higher milage. How high is to high with these? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks,

Craig

The 99's have the 7.3. The 7.3 was the motor until mid '03. It has been a pretty much bullet proof motor. I have worked for companies with 7.3 with over 300k on them and they were beat on a daily basis. The 7.3 doesn't have as much poop as the 6.0, but is very reliable. What are you going to use the truck for mainly? What kind of loads do you plan on towing?
The early 6.0's had some issues. Most of the '03's have probably been fixed by now, but the 6.0's there after seemed to be much better and the available power is, well.......OMG!
There is a lot to be said for good maintenance, so if the higher milage trucks can prove they were taken care of then no prob, but if they weren't, i'd pass.

I have an 03 and love it..what fireball said about the 7.3s is true there are alot of them out there with 200k+ on them if they were maintained they will last...the 6.0s had some problems...but there are 03s that dont have any problems...It all depends on what you want to do and what you are looking for..I wouldnt trade my truck for anything!

Well mainly this truck will be my DD but my drive to work is all of 25 miles round trip. I am driving a 12V Cummins now and just want a 4X4 now instead of a 2WD Dually. Unfortunetly I cant afford to spend much over $13K on a truck. This is making it hard for me to find a decent 1999 or newer truck that doesnt have close to 200K miles on it. Do you think im waisting my time trying to find this body style of an f250 with a powerstroke? Thanks,

Craig

Craig,

I don't think you're wasting your time. It will be difficult to locate what you're after, but not impossible.

There's a lot close to the house that routinely has 6-9 PSDs on the lot, all of them over 100K but few of them past 150K. His trucks are priced high, but negotiable.

I looked for 6+ months before I found mine and still didn't get what I wanted. Two years ago +, I paid 13.5K for my early '99 2wd extended cab w/ 64K miles. Private sell. I could've gotten 4wd CC's for 15-18K but they had 125-150K and I wasn't comfortable with those.

KEEP LOOKIN'!
