F-150 w/ 330HP diesel

Will this finally be the diesel Ford wants for the F-150?

That sounds like a sweet engine and definately something I'd be interested in having.

When a diesel with that much power makes it into the f150 how many idiots are we going to see trying to tow massive trailers w/ 1/2 ton trucks.

As long as the price is right... Hard to justify spending 5 grand on a diesel, when it costs 1 dollar more per gallon....

For no Freakin reason....

Tupy SA of Brazil is the same factory that produced the famous #53 block for Cummins. So I for one would be sceptical about anything they would hand to Ford. Ford can not afford to have another bad diesel related launch.

Broker,

I wouldn't worry too much about that. They are one of the biggest engine block foundaries in the world, producing blocks for many manufacturers. The 53 block could have been anyone's fault.

This engine plant that Ford runs in UK that's doing the final machining is supposed to be top notch.

Brian,

In the article it hints that Ford can produce this diesel cheaper (and lighter & more powerful) than a Navistar diesel, so one can hope the optional diesel will be more reasonably priced and not drag the nose down on the F-150. "This horsepower gap highlights the huge gap that exists in diesel technology in Europe and North America . Navistar had a 4.0-litre V6 diesel, but Ford can easily match it on price and performance."

I say go for it or prepare to be beaten to the market by DC or GM.

3 years is ages from now and somebody else will have already arrived with 1/2 ton diesel truck by then.

Hopefully the so called best isn't taking another rest. Yawn

If I had the choice today I'd would like to see a diesel in either the F-150 or Titan. Just my .02.

Yeah, I'd rather have a block cast at the Indianapolis Casting Complex, too, but guess what? The duramax diesel is mostly made of foreign parts so I guess Ford is going to have to follow the same path. GM did and look what it got them, the envy of today's light diesel market.

Show me a 330HP diesel F-150 and I'll show you sales Ford couldn't imagine.

If Tupy is used to cast Audi engine blockss, I have no problem with Ford using them for light diesel blocks.

Diesel costs more since there isn't as large of an infrastructure to move it. Since sooo many cars are now running on diesel it has stressed how much and how fast it can get here. It wasn't until the recent years did diesel demand go through the roof.

International built a whole new plant to build the v-6 diesel for the light duty trucks. Then Ford said on second thought forget it. International sued them. And now it looks like Ford actually may put the engine in the 150.
