Soft rear 1 ton.

As I was washing the truck tonight I noticed that when I jumped on the bumper it had alot of movement. I am a fellow fat kid at 6'2" 260 but I got the truck moving a good 5-6 inches. To me this seems a little soft for a 1 ton dually. I do a fair amount of towing but the truck only has 10k miles on it and seems really soft. Maybe I am complaining about nothing but I was wanting to get a general consenses from the members. The truck is a 13000 GVWR I think.

 2005 Ford F-350 CC 4x4 Dually. Of course :agreed: 6.0 PSD with Torqueshift Tranny.

Most leaf packs are "progressive" meaning they get progressively stiffer as the are pushed down more. The first 3-5 inches is the longer leafs which have more give to them to absorb bumps you encounter on/off road when empty to lightly loaded. When the load gets heavier, the shorter leafs on top (called the overloads) will start to bottom out on the spring stops on the frame. At that point, it takes a lot of down pressure to make the suspension sink any further.
You also have shorter, stiffer springs on the bottom of your spring pack, they also have less flex to them, but generally don't see much action until the load gets heavy.

Imagine if the springs were really stiff right at the top. The ride would be horrendous when your truck was empty.
