Steering Stabilizers

I just put new steering stabilizers on my truck. Do the rubber boots that they put on the shocks actually serve a purpose. I see lots of truck that don't run the rubber boots on shocks and steering stabilizers. I'd like to take them off it they really are not doing nothing but looking gay.

You forgot to mention Flies.

Will not having them shorten the life of the shock?

Im going to take mine off. I found that water gets inside the boot along with sand and everything else. I figured without the boots i can rinse them off easier.

They keep the shaft cleaner, which will make the seals in the shock last longer.

we always took them off, or never installed them in the first place. My brother and I worked in a 4wheel drive shop for years, and build jeeps, and have never had a problem not running them.

The Factory Steering Stabilizer doesn't have a boot at all. I say take 'em off if you don't like them.

It is all preference,...I offroad a lot....so I like to protect them and keep the shafts clean.

And when you are on the highway,...the boots help protect the shafts against rocks whacking them, and sandblasting, which will wear out your seals.

The stock shock is kind of protected, because it is hidden behind the bumper...aftermarket shocks are low, and see a lot of abuse.
