load range d?

i know our trucks are supposed to have E range tires but i dont plow or haul so can i get away with D range?

yep, its no problem as long as they can carry the weight.

The last two sets of tires on my truck have been D's and there hasn't been one problem. I've towed a 7k lb trailer with a bed full of stuff and there was only a bit of sway when passing semi's and large vehicles on the freeway, but nothing too bad.

I will never run D's on my rigs again. I ran them on my X and they where so bad that I couldn't tow. It was the scariest thing I ever did in a truck.

If you go up in tire size the D range load rating will be similar if not more than the stock E range.

I think the section height of the tire has to come into play also. Seems like the more section height you have the more you need the "E" to keep the side to side sway under control.

Yeppers--exactly. When I switched from the 285/75R16D BFG AT's I was running to the same size but E-rated Michelin LTX/AT2 tires I have now, the difference was dramatic. It wasn't a night/day difference, but I'm so much more stable cornering, especially when the truck is loaded, that I don't know I could ever go back to a D-rated tire for something that'll see a lot of loading. The BFG's had a high-enough weight rating to be alright when I was empty but when I was over 10K on the axles (yeah, just a wee bit over GVWR max) handling got a little scary so I doubt I'll ever go back to a D-rated tire when there's an E-rated equivalent.

I am running D range tires now and it tows fine and gives a better ride on the highway than the E range tires that were on it when I first bought the truck.

I switched to D's also. Alot better ride.
