Manual v electric transfer case

Never owned a 4x4 before and I'm looking at a 2006 F-250 that has a manual 4x4 transfer case. Other than the obtrusive stick in the floorboard, what are the pros and cons of each?

I prefer Manual Transfer Cases as there are no electrical/vacuum connections/systems to worry about. Lock the Hubs, Pull the Lever, and Go! P.S. you can shift on the fly with a manual transfer case as long as the hubs are locked and there are no tires spinning. Chris

I'm a little more country than that...

Thanks, because I found two nearly identical trucks, one w/shift on the fly and the other w/manual is $4k less! Mileage difference between them is less than 10k.

Go with the manual the electronics sucks... Mine has never not worked. But every time it just seems like a crap shoot... When I say the electronics suck I include all manufactures.

I love my manual i go from4x4 to 4x2 all the time as well. I just drive with the front hubs locked when I think I might need 4x4 and just reach down pull the lever and all is well!

can you do it on the fly as well? say going 40mph, let off the throttle and let it lock in ? is so that is sweet that the manual ones will do that as well.
