99 f350 bad engine value

I have the opportunity to buy a 1999 f350 dually lariat 4x4 with about 220k on the clock, trans was recently replaced, and the engine has a knock , but still runs. the truck is definitely worth repairing, I am curious as to what you guys think I should pay? how much is too much?

A knock, especially from the lower end of the motor can easily result in a complete motor rebuild or replace. I would factor that into your estimate. Remember, always start out low on an offer and have a preset limit in your mind. I would start an offer of 3k and no more than 4k. A good clean used 99' dually with only around a 100k miles average about $14-16k. You could easily end up with a 10k repair bill in parts and labor, unless you do it yourself. Harry
