Making 92 F350 auto into a manual tranny

found a 92 F350 4x4 that fits all my requirements except it is an automatic, which I am ok with, simply prefer stick shift......anyone have a rough idea how much money it'd cost to put a manual tranny in her and if there are any issues with doing so? I would most likely just wait til auto trans started acting up in the future and then swap, just trying to figure out what I'd be getting myself into before making the decision to purchase.

when i did mine i just bought a whole parts truck for 1000, plus 250 to have it towed home. but i also sold a lot of parts off it and then took it to the scrap yard and got like 300 bucks. a parts truck is probably your best bet.

Keep an eye on Craigslist. The ZF5's come up regularly. See if you can get one with the transfer case as a unit. You will need to pull up you carpet. The spot where the shifter comes through should be visible. In those days they had a juice clutch. Not sure on the F models but you may look at the pedal assembly. If there is a spot to hang the clutch pedal, it will save you a bunch of trouble. You may only have to trim the brake pedal to match a manual brake pedal pad. Not sure but I have done this on other Fords. The other one I did it turned out only the metal pad was wider and the rest of the pedal assmbly was the same. There used to be a reinforcement panel for the clutch master on the firewall. Get one of those or augment it so you don't have issue. I am not sure but the manual transmission engines may have a slightly different cam in them. You may have exhaust issues and have to deal with that. I would open up the transmission before you install it to make sure it is sound.
