Dinging upon startup

My truck just started "dinging" once it has started.

It will cycle 5x with 5 "dings" that sound like a softer version of the door dinger.

No CEL lights or anything suspicious.

Hope to pull codes today.

Any suggestions?

Usually the softer tone has to do with srs system. No air bag light on or flashing? Does your horn and cruise work? If you pull codes with a good scanner my bet is you'll get codes for an air bag fault of some kind.

That's sort of what I was afraid of.

I'll get it checked out ASAP.

the 5 tone sequence is most likely coming from the Air bag module i.e. "restraint module".
Is the air bag light on? Does the air bag light prove out (on for 6 secs. ) when you turn your key to run?

Most of the time I have seen the air bag warning light burn out causing this concern. this is also the most probable cause of the audible chime.

The other cause could me a short to battery in the idicator circuit ( never seen this one)

If the air bag lamp works or proves out when you cycle the key to run then you probably have a module fault concern.

My air bag light is not on at all.

It was Sunday. It would flash the Two-Seven code for the Passenger Air Bag Indicator Light fault. The bulb burnt out. It's been that way for 2+ years. It's never changed and I have it check frequently.

I have no idea why the Air Bag light would suddenly quit working and the chime would begin except there is a new issue.

Can't get it scanned today. Should be able to by lunch tomorrow.

Won't wear my sunglasses or put my hands in front of the air bag until I figure it out and/or get it repaired.

Its funny you say that, I had a Ranger come in with the same code/flash for the pass air bag deactivation switch ( this truck came from a tote the note lot down the street ) I quoted the parts/labor to fix, they declined and left. A couple weeks later a customer brought us the truck to do an inspection before he bought it and also noted to me about a beeping sound ( 5-beep sequence ) Come to find out the bulb was not burned out, it was completely missing. WTF... I have also seen a few "missing" check engine light bulbs in the past, along with ABS etc..etc..

Oh by the way, the flash code "27" which would be a DTC B1884 if you had it scanned means--- Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Switch Warning Lamp Inoperative.
All you need to do is replace the deactivation switch assy. ( the bulb is burned out-thats all )
The reason the air bag light on the dash went out is probably because it's been flashing and staying lit for 2+ years. The reason its now beeping is because its basically telling "you" that there is a problem with the restraint system and it does not have a bulb to tell you so.

Pull the instrument cluster out and replace that bulb, and if you are savvy with soldering on little circuit boards you take apart the PAD switch and re-solder a new bulb back on the PAD switch for its indicator lamp. I have done this using the same bulb as needed for the inst cluster.
