Exclamation 4wheel drive help

I was out plowing with the truck the other day, when I noticed my front tire, I believe its only the right front, sounds as if I have a rubber flap hitting the tire. This is only when in 4 wheel drive, not sure about 4 low. When I take it out of 4 it stops making this noise. any ideas on what this could be.

Have you checked the steering knuckle u-joint, the lock-out hub, or the ball joints?? I would remove the tire/wheel and start there...

Jack it up and spin the tire(s), see if you can track down the source of the noise. Push, pull, poke everything in there until you find something loose or broken.

Have you taken the wheel off and done any visual or physical inspection of the suspected area?? Process of elimination actually works...

I did today, and the only thing I found was the black plastic ring was loose, I have the picture in another post, spun the wheel, rocked it shook it did everything I could think of and nothing, I may jack the whole truck up and basically drive it on blocks, also checked the diff fluid, the front dif is black and smells weird, also the fluid was a little low

only real way to check ball joints it so jack the tire up just enuf to get a large pry bar under it and pry up on the tire while someone watches the balljoints very closely for movement.
