whats up with the rust

seen alot of superduty this week with the rear wheel lip rotting out one was even an 03,04 they were not plow trucks 1 had the hole lower tail gate ate up.anyone having this prob and know were its coming from.twice a year a go up under with wd-40 and soak all the spots you cant see hoping i dont have this prob.also in the last few years it hasnt been to bad with salt on the roads.

It's a combination of the new de-icing compounds, more use of any de-icing compound (including salt) to improve road conditions (and reduce lawsuits relating to roads not being cleared enough) as well as the change in the anti-corrosion plating and coatings to more EPA friendly types.
