Exclamation Black rubber/plastic ring where front axle pics included

I was looking at my hub today and noticed a black rubber or plastic ring there the u joint meets the axle, either way what is this ring its loose on both sides pass and drivers also u joint seems a little loose. Im going to take a pic

the yellow is the ring that is very loose

this LOOKS like the vacuum seal & hub o-ring.

the oring should NOT be loose...my bet is youre also having a problem w/ the ESOF
hub engagement (either the hub WONT lock, or if it does, it likely will not UNLOCK).

dont know your mileage or age, but while youre there you probably should plan
on replacing the balljoints while you have it apart to fix the seals.

Very loose and very normal. It's a dirt shield that IMO is there more for looks.

Don - that's the axle side, not the hub side.

if its the PUMPKIN side then the <BLACK> dust shield is normally LOOSE...and
as jack says, its a JOKE.

the yellow o-ring should NOT be loose...it should be inside the HUB...

ok cause I was wondering if this is the thumping noise coming from the front when my 4 hi is engaged

ok, my bad, i thought the your yellow line was the yellow o-ring/seal.
the dust seal is loose, as it should be.

check your sway-bar drop links to make sure theyre not "blown"

I got mine into place and silicone'ed it to the axle or axle saft, what ever one it fit better on, cant recall

Large Alternator(250amps)(130 amps was so 2003). On 3rd set of Hgs(soon to be 4th), 2nd set of heads, 2nd tubro, egr cooler, FICM and more. When i Turn the Key it does return a Favor, not always in MY Favor.
