Rolling Rumble Puzzler

I'm driving my 2005 King Ranch, 6.0, 2wd with no problems until now...
it's got 53,500 miles on it and just like a bad habit there is a rumble, sounds like it's coming from the front, like a wheel bearing goin bad... turn off the engine at 35-40 and it's easier to hear... thought it was tires but on a gravel/clamshell drive way at 20mph I can still hear it...
pulled both axels in the back, stuck my magnet in there, not a bit of trouble on the magnet... did the same for the front wheel bearings, took out the outer bearing and stuck the magnet in there, nothing...
This has me puzzled and my wife cranky!
It's not the front brakes draging either and the noise does not change when the brakes are applied...
U joints are tight, caarrier bearing seems just fine...

Looking for some guidance with this... any simelar experiences for anyone?

Sounds like you are describing a bearing type noise. Sometimes if its a front wheel bearing you can change the noise by turning or swerving the truck. If you turn left and noise gets lighter or goes away its usually the left bearing, same goes for the right side. Also lift the tires off the ground and grab the top and bottom of tire and see if you can wiggle it in/out. if you have movement there is "play" in something. sometimes it helps to have someone move the wheel/tire while you are under truck looking for whats moving.

My motto: Be nice, be polite, but have have a plan to kill everyone that you meet.

Kick it into 4x4 when it's making the sound and see if it goes away. Sounds like a needle bearing on your wheel bearing assembly.

If the brakes are acting up I would say it the bearings. Just like everyone else has pointed out but while you are checking that you may want to check the ball joints cause they have been know to go out early also. Just something to think about if you have it apart at a shop you wil save some labor in the long run.
