Correct I just did it. Passed no problem. Make sure you have the stock stuff on and no chip propgramed!!! They snap the throttle to check for excessive smoke.

Just did mine after a major headache of trying to find an aftermarket Cold air Intake sys
to replace my AFE Stage 2 that at the time was not CARB approved. Over the weekend going to 8-Lug Magazine I had found out that Gale Banks and AFE both were approved.
Ford wanted over 1,000 dollars for the sys. K&N over 400 dollars and had to order a part for $77 that did not arrive until Monday. I canceled the job at the shop. Ordered the OE sticker from AFE, Tuesday took the truck to get smogged. The shop did the visual, snap test, and hooked up to check for any codes. It passed. I was informed by CARB that if the aftermarket part does not have an OE number/sticker the part has to come off.
I hope this helps.
Thanks

To Vailcomp,
You were fortunate, I wasn't so lucky in the beginning of this mess.
I contacted my Ford dealer where the wife and I purchased our truck. They told me it would fail the visual because at the time the AFE system installed on my truck was not OE approved. I contacted the Parts Dept told me it would cost over a 1K for the original Ford stock Cold Air Induction System. I then contacted a company that installed the exhaust on the truck. They could install a K&N. I made an appointment drove it down to them. The K&N kit did not have everything needed for my truck. Had to order a part from K&N. That was on a Wed. Monday they received the part. Over the weekend I went to 8-Lug Magazine website and found out that Gale Banks and AFE both had some of their systems approved by the CA Air Resources Board. I contacted AFE they sent me out the OE sticker for my system. A day later my recharge kit arrived from AFE, cleaned up the air filter. On the 6th of July 2010 took the truck in and it passed the CA smog test. What a headache to go through.

what a hassle you had to go through- I took mine to the dealer where I bought it- told the guy what I had done- he told me no problem- passed.
