YOu can see the small cuts i made on each side.. there there are 2 small bolts holding it the front top section one. remove thoes 2 bolts, i drain some coolant maybe a qt or 2, removed the intake, removed the upper hose from the radiator only, and the over flow line..

now take the top front shround peice off.. the rubber is attached to this peice and slids onto the bottom peice, when you start pulling up you will understand.. get that out, then remove bottom 1/2 just pulls up and kinda have to turn it clock wise to avoide the fan.. once thats out there are 4 15mm bots holding the big shroud on. remove them. each corner has one bolted to the block..

( the lower radiator hose is attached to the big shroud by a clip, drivers front)

now you can pull that forward a bit to get a wrench on the fan nut.. its big.. 1" 7/8th IIRC. regular threads. Lefty loosey. Give it a wack and it will come loose.. i had a small flat bar in the pully(theres some small slots) to hold the pully from turning..remove the fan nut.once its off pull it all out together.. remove the shroud and put the fan back in. you can see how i secured the wire so it does not get hit..

You can see the holes i drilled in the front shround to ziptie it back together. once thats in your done.. just put the other chit back on, add some coolant if you drained any and smile.

Oh and i put the bolts back in the block to keep the holes clean..(the 4 on the block side..)

Not sure if the '05 and newer trucks are different but i have 5 bolts that hold that fan shroud piece on, not 4. And my bolts are 15mm not 14.

besides saving knuckles and lots of blood, and preventing mass hair loss from stress, does this do anything else? Is there any performance gain? Will it help the motor cool better?

Is there any negative from doing this?

I had to change my altenator yesterday and all I could think of was this thread (and what I would do to the engineer that designed that effin shroud).

I did this and towed a 9K lbs trailer in Northern California summer heat (Redding for those who care) and noticed no difference is coolant temps. So I don't think this will cause any ill effects. Just so much more room.
