question on leveling kits??

after looking at the threads on here ive noticed most people go with a 2.5 inch in the front and a 4 inch block in the rear. whats the purpose of such a big difference in the lift heights front to back? i measured my truck off at around an inch difference front/back so wouldnt a 2.5 front and a 1.5 rear block make it sit level? or am i reading this wrong?
