Fuel tank size?

How many gallons of diesel are you able to put into your truck? I can never get more than 22 gallons in from the low fuel light. Is that because the low sulfur diesel foams up so much?

short bed trucks are 29 gallons
long bed trucks are 38 gallons

I can get 92 gallons in my truck when i fill up (but thats another story) !

your problem is with the VENT tube in the tank...it protrudes too far
into the tank & liquid fuel. When filling the tank, the liquid rises to a point
eventually covering the vent tube in the liquid level which prevents VENTING.

you need to HARPOON <mod> your tank - Harpooning is an easy
mode (drive the tank level low/close to empty), drop the tank and
SNIP the vent (and fill) line that extends too far into the tank/liquid

youll fill your tank FASTER, venting it quicker, and youll be able to fill
the tank COMPLETELY !

the VENT is the yellow poly/pvc pipe in this photo -

Are you filling it until it clicks only, with no top off?

I top mine off until there is a visible fluid level in the filler neck, no foam. The highest I've got on my short bed was 31.XXX. And I was dang near empty

Thanks, after reading your responses I filled the truck slowly and was able to get 25 gallons from the 1/8 tank mark.

good deal...and important thing to know is that the tank in our DIESEL trucks is
the very SAME tank that is used in the gasoline trucks...so the vent tube might
be better suited (as is) for gasoline vapors and expansion.

if you "harpoon" the tank youll be able to get more fuel in, FASTER.

I'm looking at getting a Titan fuel tank when I get back from Iraq. Do you know if the Harpoon mod work with it as well?

couldnt tell you. i do know that they use the at least some of the OEM
internals (sending unit etc). they require you to use or move the OE float/sending unit to their tank at installation.

I dont know if they (or anyone else) have designed shorter, internal, vent
lines.

Im curious - what truck do you have (long bed ? short bed ?).
When you consider the cost per XTRA gallon these factory replacement
tanks (transferflow & titan) are REALLY REALLY expensive.

look at the following integrated systems and tanks -

http://attatank.com/atta/
http://www.kshmarine.com/truck_tanks1.htm

for the cost of a titan or trasferflow you can have 50+ gallons or MORE,
not just 15 or 20 more.

While I completely agree that they are more expensive per extra gallon. I know in my mind that an OE replacement vs an addon is what I would want. It is the same reason I spent the money to get the audiophile system vs getting a better one installed for cheaper after purchasing the truck.

just because its OEM doesnt mean its better...plastic tanks and factory
audio systems are a PERFECT example of reduced cost lower quality
examples.
