What is a National Event?????

I think there has been some confusion on what has been coined a National event in Diesel motorsports!

Originally phrased by DHRA as a National event meant all aspects of diesel motorsports are represented - sled pulling, drag racing, and dyno!

It meant that regional competitors would travel to come and compete for National titles in the different classes and a chance to compete locally with some of the National names from other areas of the country!

Now it seems everyone wants to deem their event a National!

As an event grows to include all three competitions and the competitors attend from all over to come and compete with local enthusiasts NADM will name the events appropriately!

Also it means you rent the facility where only diesels are on the grounds - why? So we don't have to compete for show time and it's a diesel only event!

The reason diesel motorsports was started as a separate entity from NHRA because they do not recognize diesel vehicles on the track. They currently do but only slightly recognized and most people do not realize but any 4x4 that goes below 10 sec on the track will be ejected from NHRA tracks.

Right now the only event we have named a National is the East Coast Nationals in PA on July 18!

The one in Dallas this fall would qualify but we are choosing not to do so until it grows.

lol - closer to gatherings Ty! Now the next 2 NADM gatherings will be events!

Larger crowds are expected in Springfield IL and Numidia PA!

What's involved in renting a drag strip? $$$$$ plus insurance that is NHRA approved coverage, SFI Techs, people to work the gate, lanes, etc.

You can use the tracks insurance but then again you have to use NHRA rules for diesels - which is no records - all ET and basically no safety since it is considered all street. I've heard some NHRA techs refusing to look at diesels except to see if their battery is secure - lol!

We are not going to play with the big boys with that kind of safety issues!

Big names have tried to convince NHRA to include diesels in the upper classes (Bks - if anyone could he would be the one) but they will not budge - why because their loyal big name teams would block it!

Thus that is why a diesel sanctioning body was started!

So far no one has been able to make a living off of it (regular fulltime business) but we are trying!

Another aspect most people don't realize is NHRA does not allow sled pulling at their tracks unless an insured sanctioning body runs that portion of the event.

That is why you see most sled pulling done at fairgrounds where tractor pulling originated. We have brought more sled pulling to drag strips than any other organization out there.

Because we have the credentials to do so, along with the personnel who know how to do the work end of the pulling.

Just remember next time the tech quotes safety it is for a reason, the more SFI parts and rules we use the cheaper our insurance for each event! We can also sell insurance for events - drag or pulling as long as they use our rules!

Just a few more points of what makes a National event!
