cummins 12v specifics

I am pretty much settled on getting a 1994 - 2000 model Ford crew cab truck and de-stroking it. I just have a real fundamental problem with new trucks that cost 60 grand and then have to spend another 4000 or so to get rid of all the anti-pollution stuff (dpf, egr, etc.) that gets in the way of the machine working properly. I have driven two dodge trucks with the 5.9 cummins and the NV5600 6-spd manual, and really like the cummins I6 engine. That is the drivetrain I want to put in an earlier model Ford. Is there a good source for information on rebuilding a cummins 12 valve including recommended parts from cams, head studs, dowel fix, etc.? Also possible sources of getting an engine and transmission?

I think that finding a suitable doner truck is a good route to go. The other mods depends on what you want to do with the truck. Take a look at other builds that would fit your needs and model after those. Also the NV5600's could be getting hard to find parts for as they aren't in production anymore, the ZF 6 speed would be a better choice. Plenty of information exists on adapters, motor mounts, wiring, KDP, etc. So best to do a search and take plenty of notes!

Still researching I was hoping to find a comprehensive thread or similar that would kind of sum it all up as to the drivetrain especially the cummins 12v engine re-build and mods to make it stronger more bullet-proof. Also looking at wrecking yards for possible donor trucks (have not had any luck finding a 12v cummins, not common at all). I may have to just find a relatively clean 1999 or 2000 model ford superduty crewcab truck with a 7.3 and restore that as necessary.

My concern with getting a later model truck with say a 6.0 litre V8 and deleting the EGR etc. is illegal and there may come a day when they really do crack down on altering anti-pollution equipment commensurate with the year model truck, in all states as part of a federal mandate. Just trying to plan ahead for eventual further government intervention and regulation enforcement.

Cool.... out here on the left coast I have seen 2nd gen trucks go for $2500! I almost bought one... then decided that I don't have the time to deal with it.
