cummins mated to the 5R110 torqshift

I see that destroked makes an adapter plate to mate a cummins to the 5R110 torqshift and was wondering if anyone has done this. I know....why would anyone still use the torqshift when doing a cummins swap and just use the dodge tranny. But i figured if someone already had the 5R110 already built up...they could save some money by keeping it instead of putting the dodge tranny in it and beefing that one up. Just really curious is all incase something were to ever happen to my engine cause i already spent the money to have my tranny built.

personally I would rather run the 5R110 rather than a dodge trans is there anything wrong with the 5R110... if it weren't for the Cali smog I would be building a nice cummins to mate up with my 5r110

This is a touchy subject because some guys swear by their 5R110's, myself being one of them who had already dumped buckets of money into mine to beef it up. However, we have tried to run 5R110s behind Cummins, and it just plain doesn't work, not even behind a stock CR, tried it. The problem is that the 5R valve body is full of all electronic solenoids, vs a 4R100, or dodge tranny that is run by valves instead. Aftermarket controllers, such as the PCS standalone can't command the solenoids fast enough to make the trans shift right. It seems that they are always slamming gears and slipping or hunting for gears. We don't waste our time with 5R110's anymore, been there done that and learned from it. In the end, after you have ripped all of your hair out and considered lighting your truck on fire more than a few times, you will end up ripping the 5R out and going another route anyways.

If you go with a PCS Standalone controller on the 48RE you can set up a paddle-shifter!

See here- PCS Paddleshifter
