Fummins or newer 6.0l?

I am in need of replacing my 6.0. I have found a 6.0l motor with 80,000 miles on it for $4250. but I still have to deal with the 6.0 problems.

I have also found a 1998 24v with a manual pump (comes with both pumps) for $1500. All the parts to do the conversion run at about $3500-$4000(is that about right?) so we are looking at around $5000-$5500 to do the fummins.

Which would be the better option?

My original thought would be to fix it and sell it then buy a gasser but if I replace it with the cummins I would just hang on to it. I just don't know if I can deal with $4000 repair bills again. I am missing my 2000 6.8 right now.

Thanks for the replys guys.

But do my numbers look right about how much it will cost to do it myself. or is it still going to be closer to $10000. This is not a daily driver but I will be pulling a travel trailer 6-8 times a year.

Thanks.

Also I want to keep the 5r110 for now until it needs to be replaced it has 210000 miles on it too But still strong. I would like to keep it an Auto so the wife can drive it. Later put a built 4r100. I do not want to race the thing I just need it to move an 8000lb trailer around.

This thing has been sitting in the drive for over a month, I am getting tired of looking at it. That is one expensive boat anchor.

If you get a 12V motor, you could save some money and I think you should be within your budget (depending on how much you spend on the motor of couse)

A 12 valve or 24 valve and keep the power reasonable until you get the trans you want. A $10K or less swap is very doable in this economy... motors can be found, but I would also keep an eye on a complete truck if that will work out for you as I've seen some dirt cheap runners!
