biggest tires on 6in lift

hello every one, first off i have done lots and lots of searching on here. my searching results have said that 37in tires are as big as you can go with a 6in lift. if this is true i want to know where and what is stopping bigger tires. bottoms of fender wells, lower control arms? as you can see below there is a not so beautifull hack job on the bottoms of my wheel wells. i have around 6+ in of clearance with wheels strait forward. my tires barley rub at full lock, but do rub. i am running bfg a/t's 37x12.5x17 i know they run small, not smaller than 36" right?

i have no idea why there is a hack job on my truck, i bought it this way. shinny big truckarty018: and some how missed the hack job, but probably would still have bought it knowing it was there. i need to get it patched up before the Alaska winters takes care of it for me. on my lca's i can see where a bigger tire rubbed about 2 1/2 to 3 in further back. (5 to 6in bigger tire right) with that said, i want to get some 22.5 alcolas with 41.8in traction tires. can i do it? or just stick with the normal 37's? i know i'm going to catch a lot of slack for this :buttkick:but i have my mind set on filling out my wheel wells more. sorry for the long post and thanks in advance guys!

old pic but kinda get an idea what i'm working with
a little closer up

wonderful hack job that i will pay for in a few years

idea of the space i have, sorry couldn't get a pic of lower control arms but they are bent inwards to help with clearance issues.

Depending on the manufacture of the lift but, on a 6" Superlift a 37" tire was the max they suggested. If you ran a 37" tire you needed a 4 1/2" of backspace on the wheels, or something like that. I had an 04 Dodge with the above mentioned lift. I ran 37" BFG all terrains on the Mickey Thompson Classic lock wheels. I think that back spacing was like 4 5/8". The only time they rubbed was while backing up with the wheels turned. They would rub very little on the leading corner of the front bumper. The plastic air dam to be exact. Every suspension company will do some things different with their control arms. This may or may not lead to any rubbing with the front axle.

i had 5'' of lift on 36s with my old 1500. backspacing was 4.5'' or 4.75'' that should give u a start.

Can you get more detailed pics of the suspension? Mostly the arms and a pic of the truck from the side on a level surface with the wheels straight.

I'm not sure if it is the wat it is parked but that looks like more than a 6" lift and the front axle doesn't look centered in the wheelwell. Both of those issues will play an important part in tire/wheel fitment.

skyd ram, i'm on vacation up in anchorage ak right now, when i get home i will get you a some more pic. i thought it looked more than 6in but sitting right next to a 07 2500 with a 6in tuff country lift that i put on it was almost identical. i bought the truck with the lift, and haven't got a defendant answer on what lift is on it. closest i can guess is a tuff country long arm 6in thanks in advance!

I think its all a matter of use and personal opinion. Like it was stated above the general rule of thumb is that 37's are the biggest you can go on a 6" lift, but im running 36" swampers on no lift with stock backspacing and have barely any rub on my lower control arms. If i were you i would just cut your fenders to make the tires you want fit since they are messed up already anyway. And LT is right, the backspacing of the rim will determine how far away the tire is from the control arms, the less backspacing you have the farther away the tire gets from the arm.
