2011 duramax concerns

I am looking at a 2011 duramax and have a concerns with the new urea requirements. I am worried that with this new technology that I will have problems with the new system, should i be concerned or not worry about it. Another thing does this new system reduce horsepower and torque? How often do I have to add the urea/cost? If I were to add a chip or change exhaust will i be at risk of troubles? Lastly i was told that i should buy a duramax between the years 04 to 09 because years after the horspower was being robbed by all the emissions additions is there any truth to this?
Thanks for all your help.

Plain and simple, not true. My 2011 is a beast, it runs pretty much like a LBZ Duramax with a 90 hp box on it. If you are worried about the emission system on the 2011 just wait a few more years. It could be much worse. If you want a "NEW" truck without urea then I would suggest a Dodge.

There isn't a lot of options right now for exhaust, tuner and the like on the 2011+ trucks. I haven't heard too many issues with the urea system, just some frozen lines here and there. The 9th injector before the DPF helps with issues that plagued the LMM. Gm says the urea will last about 5000miles. The urea acts like water/meth injection cooling the combustion chamber and reducing emissions.

No it does not, its injected post DPF into a selective cat that kills the NoX what Urea does is let the manufacure run less EGR witch incresses combustion temp and run more effecint and produce less particulate. Its all after teh motor it reduces emissions.

have to say this is good. my new duramax regens about every 800 miles. 08 dodge would regen 250-300 miles. much less fuel wasted. and no fuel in the crankcase oil.

thats the whole point, you're not supposed to know, its supposed to just happen, the mileage might drop some while it's regenerating, but otherwise you probably wont be able to tell
