GM says more than 400HP

Quote:
GM says specific output for the Duramax is pending SAE certification. The third-gen Duramax made 360 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque—tops in its class—yet GM officials are optimistic that more than 400 hp and 700 lb-ft are in reach with the 2011 modifications. We expect details to come soon, along with specs for Ford’s new 6.7-liter PowerStroke V-8 diesel, which also has been rumored to be close to the 400-hp and 700-lb-ft marks.

400 is pretty breathtaking, but I'm fine with whatever they give >375 as long as the engine is more reliable and gets better fuel economy than the other brands. That will help me make my decision.

Anyone who knows diesels knows torque down low is what it was all about. Cummins & DMAX are great diesels for low RPM torque down low.

Absolutely correct Duke. The new 6.7L PSD creates 735 ft-lbs at only 1600 rpm (way better than the 6.4's 650 @ 2000). Since the two engines are similar in design and displacement I'm really hoping to see 700+++ ft-lbs at 1500-1600 rpm out of the new Duramax too. 740 @ 1550 rpm is a nice thought....

The exhaust-treatment system has been optimized for 5000-mile service intervals between 5.3-gallon fill ups of fluid for the selective-catalytic-reduction system, while the diesel particulate filter can now go up to 700 miles (up from 400 miles) between regenerations, which helps reduce fuel consumption. Total range for the diesel is now up to 680 miles with the Silverado HD’s standard 36-gallon fuel tank.
Does this mean a trip to the dealer every 5,000 miles?

Haven't they all done that at one time or another?

Life changes, so roll with it, not against it.
