Looking to get LML

Hey there, I am new here and am new to diesel in general. I purchased a 08 Sierra Denali and I love it but should of went with my gut instinct and got a d-max.

When I saw the new Sierra Denali HD I got pretty excited. I have a contact who is decent with diesel but I am trying to learn some things on my own and have been reading around this forum for a week or so.

I want to mod the truck with lift and a lot of engine mods. I read that in 07 emissions got pretty strict and they added the DPF and I was wondering how do you crafty veterans think these trucks will be of ease or difficulty to mod?

I would like to do a delete but I live in PA and dont know how to check what kind of emissions i have or have to meet and what I can do leagally or if i can do a delete and put back the dpf for inspection? Any help that can lead me in the right direction would be a great help!

Thanks All.

In regards to Modifying the engine, there are currently no mods to be had for these engines, they havnt even been released to public yet, and it may take some time before the aftermarket does release parts(6 months to a year)

With the LML the emissions restrictions are even higher than the LMM, there is a DPF as well as Urea Injection, and a 9th injector post turbo to help with DPF regens.... who the heck knows what the aftermarket will do with that junk, but once it is off the LML looks like it is going to have a lot more potential than any previous Duramax..... new block design, new turbo design, new Piezio-electric injectors, a new CP4.2 HPCR injection pump, new piston and rod design, a new Delphi ECM, the allison has be reviewed and upgraded to help handle the increased power output of the Duramax.....

Looks to be a monster once it can be un-caged and un-leashed

I know that and am just trying to get prepared. My buddy who is big into diesel said something that these new dmaxs are only tuned 58% of what they can do.

The emission part of the new trucks is scaring me because I normally play by the rules but if there are ways around the dpf and such then that will be an awesome truck.

there is no legal way around the emissions equipment, you cut it off and your breaking the law.....

there may be some aftermarket companies that sell "emissions friendly" equipment but your not really going to see any big improvement in performance, especially if you plan on doing alot of modifying

as for the engine output at only 58% potential... we will have to see.... im guessing more in the range of 75-80% with DPF and urea installed

This makes me want to not get this truck I am big into the mass performance a diesel engine can put out and emissions look like they are going to be in the way cause I normally play by the rules ha.

What about the LBZ or LLY engines which are the better of those two and there were no emissions on those years were there?

As far as I have read the emissions on diesel came into play in 07? Please correct me if I am wrong?

the LBZ is a beast, they employ an EGR and Catalytic converter, but the EGR can be blocked and the Exhaust can be removed easily, stored and put back in place if you need to for any reason, both LBZ and LLY have egrs and cats

The LBZ can be tuned to make 500hp with a trans upgrade, and a lift pump, with EFI live

If you want a 90% emissions free engine the LB7 is the way to go

Nice - I will probably go higher hp but my friend already told me I need to look into an ats tranny he was talking bigger injectors then he mentioned running a banks system and then he just got a new king ranch and put h&s on it and loves it. But he was mentioning stuff like that.

I own a 08 Sierra denali and love the interior but havent been the classic style chevy for a while now so might need to take one of those for a spin at a used dealer.

PPE makes a couple of nice transmission upgrades as well as Suncoast

if you want to make a lot of power stay away from Banks, and injectors aren't needed on these trucks until your making a good amount of power

Check out this thread that some of us put together, a comprehensive list of the different engines/powertrains/trucks and aftermarket parts, there is lots of reading involved so be prepared to take the time
