Howes is good stuff. Run it, (IMO).

The question I seek an answer for is simply; why, or why not?

Unless you are running a long ways north you do not need any aditives I have a 2007 Duramax, I did put in one aditive to try it, It was suppose to clean the fuel system. I put it in a full tank of fuel and change the filter in the fall when it was at 1/4 never found anything special in the filter.
If you remember Prolong, and every aditive package from speedway corporation they were found to be 100% BS. They are still sold.
Cat use to have a decal on all their equipment, it said buy clean fuel and keep it clean, never once did I ever go to an engine course and they said to use an aditive, never once saw an aditive fix a problem, and never once had a customer come in with a fuel problem say he put in an aditive.
Just a thought!

One other thing many additives have ingredients allowing the water to bypass the filter. That water when it gets to the injector/fuel nozzle will do damage.
If you read a lot of threads about additives and injector problems, they do seem to go together, I work on a 7.3 it has 300,000 plus miles on it, was smoking and hard to start we changed the valve cover gaskets, and the glow plugs, problem solved he never used any additives.
Just a thought!

I run Stanadyne Performance additive once in awhile in my 2013. Ran it also in the 07.5 I had. In that truck noticed about a 0.5 mpg increase and better throttle response. So far in the 13 havn't noticed the same difference, although only have 6,000 miles on it so far. I run it mostly for the extra lube.

We had a class on dpf and urea for jd tractors at one time they said to put additives in fuel and in the same breath they said not to that would make more particulate matter so knows

I worked at a truck dealership, we use to service a fleet of trucks that hauled chips over the chockahalla, 144.000 lbs, over two mountains, they tried every aditive there ever was, and kept records on every truck, they could tell you how much it cost per mile on every single part on the trucks as a fleet and as a single unit, what every driver, cost above or below average in fuel costs, and the only aditive they ever found that did anything was Nal-cool. One driver after picking up a tank of fuel with water in it, when he got to Westbank he put in a load of methyl-hydrate, instead of just draining and changing the fuel filters he had on board because he would have to lift the cab, it was a cab over, it cost them a set of injectors in about a week they knew there was a problem, the milage went to hell.
I do believe I have seen every one of the latest and greatest, from the additives by Speedway Corporation like Prolong, to the adding Cow magnets in the fuel tank to attaching them around the fuel lines.
I can understand using a Biocide, and an anti-gel if going north, the rest are 100% BS, you would do better to put a coil of crap on the back of your truck expecting the smell to push you.
Any time anyone swears they got an increase in mileage, well, that would have to mean they got an increase in power, well lets see them put it on the dyno for say 5 minutes, at a high power level, lock the throttle then put in the aditive, let it run for 1/2 an hour the speed should increase, if it does not then it is BS. Has anyone ever seen this done if not then they know there aditive is BS.
If you disagree, put your truck on the dyno, and prove it.
Just a thought!
