Best bang for the buck.....

Ok guys, I need a used truck and trying to sift through all the new EPA BS. I do know I want a newer truck because of the recent improvement in motor performance and reliability, trannies, suspension and interiors.

So my question is: Which truck will be the best money spent including the upgrades to use it as a daily driver, toy hauler and occasional stomp the **** out it truck. I know all the different brands require upgrades from what I have been reading. I am not opposed to deleting emission crap, but that needs to figured into my money equation (cab removal for Ford). I am close to retirement so I want to buy the best possible package for the long term and miles. Please include the ability to get best fuel mileage. I want my cake and eat it too. I will pull an average size toy hauler, but thats about as heavy as it will get.

I think a single axle, 4x4, 3/4 ton is all I need. I am coming out of a 2005 Ram 2500 with 35's, 5.9 cummins, auto, DRMP muffler, Quadzilla air intake, Quadzilla 150 HP box that I left on 60 HP 99% of time. Loved it but the cab was a little small.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions.....

In interior quality and bang for the buck, you can't beat the Ford. Unless you are aiming for over 600 RWHP, there is no need to do a cab off with the Ford. If you want a smoother ride and still decent power, then Chevy, not sure about the Dodge.

My personal preference is Ford. I've rode in a few Dodge's and a few Chevy's and owned an 03 Ford, not a 6.4...... But I loved the space and interior vs the other guys... I take alot of road trips, with alot of people riding with, and we all definately enjoyed the trip from CO to IL... I can't comment on the 6.4 though as I've never owned one, but I did love my 6.0! Good luck on your future toy! & sorry I wasn't too informative!

This will help with Duramax info. https://www.thedieselgarage.com/forum...ad.php?t=92868

Duramax and Cummins can both make great power with simple mods and tuning. PSDs can as well but if you're looking at a 6.0 be ready to get rid of the EGR. I haven't played with the 6.4 but the numbers on this site are impressive.

Your price range will determine what I would recommend.

Thanks for input...

Thanks for the input guys. I am thinking I will buy a solid used truck now since I will only use it to pull my motorcycle around when I am in the states. I just want something decent on diesel, makes some power for fun and getting on highway, until I buy my dream truck when I come back.

I really like the new 2010 Dodge 2500, but dont want to drop 45k and not use it.

Lets say I had a $25k budget, what would u suggest? I will resell it in 2-3 years and buy a newer truck to go into retirement.

$25K? '06-'07 LBZ CC/SB 4WD. You can't go wrong. Great resale value and ride. Easy mods and awesome numbers.

the mods for a 6.4l are (tuner and maybe airbox) and you have over 500whp but your mileage will be crappy... depending on gears and if you have a lead foot. I have seen single digit MPG if I drive like I stole it in the city.

Thanks for all the inputs guys. I dont know if I want to spend that much on a 6.4 now. After some thought, I would like to stay around 25k. The cheapest 08, 6.4 I have seen was about 28k unless u buy one with 1ook on the dial. Let me know if I am looking in wrong place...lol. The damn GMC/Chevy's are expensive too!!! I gave my damn 05 Dodge 2500 Lariat away, 20k with only 53k and slightly bombed!!! I am an idiot!!!

Mega Cab 5.9 or 6.7 doesnt matter the new tranny in the 6.7 is alot better than the old one. Decent mileage on 5.9 and 6.7 once you delete the emissions on it.
