EGR Pics Everyone should read before tuning LMM

All right,
I am not a GM expert by any means but I wanted to share with everyone my experience with tuning the LMM.
Had a customer come in yesterday with a 2008 LMM complaining about mileage of course and chatter coming from the engine area. So we gave him the full meal deal. PPE Race tuner / Flo Pro exhaust / S&B intake and of course the EGR blocker plates.
The pictures bellow show what his Intake looks like going down into the engine. Chatter went away with 10 minutes of hard driving, Can you imagine what his intake valves looked like? ? ?
Here is the kicker. Our good freinds at PPE shut off the EGR sensor in all there race tuners so when a guy deletes it you run code free.
I am not sure about the stelth but I know Edge will not shut that sensor off so can you imagine with the extra coal the stalth or Edge is pushing back through the EGR what it would look like? This truck had 6500 KM's on it. The thing was brand new and his oil was just changed and pitch black! Whatever the case make sure the tuner you buy shuts off the EGR sensor.

Dang. What kind of mileage was he getting? A little over 4000 miles and that much trouble..esp the clatter and I would have been at the dealer. Something seems wrong to have that much build up with so few miles.

Life changes, so roll with it, not against it.

My guess would be any engine that is tuned with a working EGR valve is going to look nasty.

WOW! That's crazy. So this brings up a lot of questions in ny mind:
Was he using ULSD? Would blocking off the EGR void the warranty? What effect does blocking off the EGR have on mileage? I've seen that kind of buildup on a Jetta but I thought the ULSD fixed that.

The black in that picture is carbon from the fuel, ULSD or LSD would make no difference.

In most cases; yes.

Little to no effect.
