mine is louder when it's going through the active regen, since I do a lot of short trips mine has to go into active regen as opposed to passive regen which is unnoticeable, and will happen during longer sustained trips especially under load.

my truck did the same thing at about 400 miles then at 1700 miles. both times it was missing and the engine clatter like an old 12 valve. when driving you could defenily tell that it was missing and surging, pulled over killed truck and restarted after a few minutes and then it started to run fine.
mine is a 07 6.7

I just talked to the dealer and they said that the computer had to be reflashed, they have a new program for this pickups.

My '07, 6.7, has clattered at start-up on two different occasions. It was as loud as my old 96, 5.9. The first time it happened I shut it down, re-started, and it was back to normal, very quiet. The second time it happened, it was shut down, restarted, and it was still clattering. A check engine light did not come on.I was only a couple of miles from my dealer so I went there and the service manager had their diesel specialist come out to listen.(I left the engine running so they would be sure to hear the racket). The fellow told me he had the same experience with a truck they were preparing for delivery, shut it down, re-started and the noise went away. Anyway, an appointment was made to have it checked out. They didn't find anything wrong but they performed, what I was told, a government mandated flash that had to do with emissions.
My truck is back in the shop. They called to tell me it is ready and that they replaced a leaking EGR valve but found nothing else wrong. They also said that Chrysler told them the 6.7 has a break-in period of 6k to 8,000 miles before it will be "normal". The fuel mileage really stinks compared to my other two Dodge Cummins, a 96 and an '03. I tow a 12,000 pound fifth wheel. Just returned from a 600 mile round trip, averaging only 10.7mpg. My '03 averaged 13.5 on similar trips.

Clatter

Mine did the same thing. Same deal restart and good to go. Also had a hard start issue. The reprogram fixed both issues.

Went to grand jct. 3 weeks ago 480mi round trip towed an empty car trailer out and a jeep on it on the way back. avg mileage was 11.7 with the a/c bastin the whole way. not too gad for a new truck.

Every time I tow I get better mileage and performace after. It's a work truck kids treat it like one.... tow tow tow!

When did you guys go get the reprogram? I just got my truck in the first part of May...and I've had a few hard starts. I never thought anything of it but if that would fix it I'll go get it done.

Back to the rough running and louder sound, I've since heard on other sites that a sticking EGR valve will produce those symptoms. there's some kind of maintenace that will be needed on them at some point to clean them, from what I've heard.

i just bought an 07 6.7 cummins and also wondered about noises and running problems too. I've been the diesel tech at the dodge dealership ever since they came out with the cummins in the dodge truck and this truck worried me I guess because it was mine. I've did the flash after i had the first running bad episode and it seems like it started strange noises after the flash( which is a lot more complicated than usual). I've talked to two guys at the tech line and they assured me that these noises are all normal because of all the injection "events" associated with the emission components and their functions. They also said that if ANY problems was up that the MIL lite would come on(it would even pick it up if you farted in the seatLOL ) I've had my doubts sometimes but cummins is an awesome product and you will have problems sometimes but usually nothing a flash won't fix!

Mine on a number of occasions when I started it had more rattle to than it should have but ran smooth, until I would try to bring the engine off of and idle, then it would miss like crazy too. if you shut it off and restarted it it would be fine. No fault codes or nothing. The dealer thought if I could get it into them when it was doing it it might show something on their reader, but nope! It said nothing was wrong. They tried reprogramming the ECM and all has seemed fine since now. Mine has about 3600 miles on it now and I am getting around that 16 mpg mark on the highway. That is with it also carrying about 1600 lbs in the box all the time too. It also seems to like Biodiesel.
