NC8 - California Emissions

I am looking at a 2006 2500HD. It seems like a really nice truck.

I ran a build sheet on it and this NC8 code appeared.

I read some of the previous threads about how it is a california emissions vehicle.

It is not clear exactly what this means.

Is this computer programmed differently?
Is there additional emissions equipment installed on the truck?
Does it require additional maintenance?
Does it have less power or get less MPG?
Does it cause more frequent maintenance?

Obviously, I would prefer not to have this but I want to see what the impact really is.

There are not many 2006 Duramax's in the LT package for sale in my area. This is a nice 3LT truck and want to see what the impact is and whether I should stay away even though it is nice in every other aspect.

As I understand it, An LBZ Should only have a Cat. and an EGR system, and I am not aware of any LBZ that did not that those items. Hopefully someone more versed in the Duramax will chime in but I can't imagine what else it would have.

the california emissions is just a little more strict on how the EGR operates, and I believe theres something about how the Glow plugs are utilized.. aside from that there is nothing different than the FE8 trucks

There is a Catalytic converter, EGR cooler and PCV valve, which is all supposed to make the truck cleaner, all easily bypassed or removed

It should be a good truck, no worries
