LBZ possible thermostat issue???

this morning when I left for work it was -13 outside so I let my truck warm up for 15 mins or so then took off. I drove the 5 miles or so to work and the coolant temp got up to 210 but i didnt have any heat to the cab. It also never cooled down from 210 once it reached that high. I am running an open grill, no winter-front or bra or anything. Has anybody else had a similar problem? Could it be the thermostats or something more serious? less serious? What do you guys think??

With a 5 mile drive in those temps, I would be surprised if you ever got warmed up. Gauge frozen?

Have you had the coolant checked or flushed and replaced? GM recommends every doing it every 5 years. You could have junk built up and is causing issues.

I would be looking at the antifreeze strength, You want to have at least-40 protection. Sound to me like it is jelling up, or even freezing.
Also to warm it up, you want to put on the winter front, just the grill. I keep mine on from 40F unless I am pulling then I take it off. I would never let it run for 15 minutes, it does it no good, 5 minutes Max.
Just a thought!

All good thoughts guys! i dont think the guage is frozen since it started at 160 and went up from there. I havent checked the antifreeze since ive owned it but I'll probably do that in the future. here recently it's been staying below 210 which I thought was a little more usual. johnp3 why do you say you wouldnt let it warm up that long? I always thought the longer the better?

I worked on class eights and Idling is one of the hardest thing on an engine, 5 minutes and drive it, do not do power starts, or whatever. Idling the motor will not burn the fuel completely and produces a lot of carbon that can stick the rings and cause a lot of cylinder wear.
I live in the Kootenay region of BC at the 2000 ft level, It has been -20 for weeks I never let mine Idle for 5 minutes.
In a 35 mile trip it burns as much fuel in the first 5 miles as the next 30.

Thanks for the info. What is your opinion on high idle? Is that any better? Im in central IL, hopefully temps will turn around in the coming weeks but who knows.
