Truck Limped Itself

2007 Chevy 3500 LBZ/Alli

It's semi-cold today, probably about -7F ambient. Got in the truck to give my wife a ride to work and the check engine light came on. Then the tranny started acting weird and the RPM's wouldn't go over 2000 rpm even in neutral. I did a search on here and you guys said something about fuel limp mode. I live in North Dakota where it gets cold regularly so I haven't added anything to the fuel, should I add some diesel heat to fix it after getting the code cleared or just some 2 stroke oil like I use to do on my Cummins. Thanks in advance.

Cleared the code and treated the fuel, hopefully I am squared away. 28mph for 15 miles sucks, glad I could clear it.

Hey CumminsTorq! Welcome to the Duramax world I had a similar problem with my '08 2500 HD (LMM), although the truck started to do it when I slowed down. The dash said something like "running in limp mode". When I drove it home after work it was fine but I made an appointment at the dealers anyway. They said there was a "mod" for the MAF sensor (after the air filter), apparently the sensor started to ice over and the exact symptoms you spoke of started to happen. They installed the "mod" under warranty and I've never had the problem again.

Hope this helps

Thanks a lot for the reply, I am having the same issue again today. I'll go pull it and see if I can warm it up or something.

Do you run a tuner on the truck?

How'd you make out with your rig? There is another avenue you might take with the limp problem. When I called GM Canada about a car I was buying for the wife (checking repair/warranty history) they were more than happy to tell me if there was any warranty repair on the car (2006 Vibe) and if there were any recalls, what the real interesting part was is that I told them that I drive an 08 Sierra and the did a recall check for me and sure enough there was one for a tranny cooling ecm update. Give GM (USA) a call and ask, you may have the problem fixed for free on a recall!

Cheers

this sounds like what his problem would be to me too, I haven't had it happen to me, but I've read a few posts about the same issue. Just not cold enough in NC for me to have the problem.
