What year was the Allison Introduced?

Has GM been using the Allison since 2001? Just been curious.

Yes, it came out for the 01 model year for the DURAMAX and 8.1L in the 2500HD and 3500 trucks. I believe it came out before then though in the medium duty trucks.

1995 GMC 2500 SUBURBAN, DURAMAX/ALLISON, 3.42 gears, 261 T-case, Trans has a mild build with ALOT of help from MIKE L. which included ALTO's for C1-C4, PI ML converter, DIAMONDEYE 4" exhaust, CORSA muffler, AFE stage 1 dry filter, EFILIVE, KENNEDY single pump, pump rub kit

The ALLISON 1000 has been around for a while, but first made its way into the gm hd trucks in 2001 as fermanator stated, its too bad we couldn't stuff an allison 2000 into our trucks, the could handle more torque that's for sure

The 1000-2400 all use the same frictions, they just have different gearing, parking brake or not, or parking pawl. The 3000 series is HUGE in comparison though to the 1000/2000 series.

do the allison 1000 and 2000 both have the same mounting locations cause it would be cool if someone put a 2000 behind a dmax

from what i understand the 2000 wouldn't be a big improvement over the 1000, very similar components, you either need to build your 1000, or buy a 3000..... either choice is gona hurt the wallet
