Duramax Diesel Quit

I acquired a 2001 GMC Sierra Duramax 3500 from a family member. Ran fine for close to 3000 miles (has 50K on odometer). The engine started ran for 20 seconds and shut off. Cranks fine, won't start. Fuel delivery?

Most likely an air leak. Have you tried pumping the fuel primer yet? Chances are either the filter is bad, the o-ring around the primer base is bad, or the fuel lines at the front of the engine have cracked. The DMAX fuel system runs under vacuum, so any air leak will shut her right down.

Did you losen the plastic screw beside the primer first? That screw has a tendancy to break or strip and can cause an air leak as well

Thanks for the insight. I replaced the fuel filter purge screw and primed the system. Engine runs. Sad the the whole system can be disabled by a plastic screw.

A leak at the stock plastic bleeder screw is fairly common. We offer an Aluminum Bleeder Screw to help avoid that problem.
