flywheel housing

OK my flex plate blew apart and broke a ear from flywheel housing and broke my transmission bell housing. Got all the parts yesterday, transmission is a ATS a stock bell housing should work correct? They look the same. As for the flywheel housing, has anyone ever done one? I took the bottom oil pan off and got the four bolts out from the bottom. Does the top oil pan need to come off??
