waste gate

Do any of you know how hard it is to plug the waste gate on 02 dmax? Me and DMaxRig are going to plug his if anyone knows any helpful tips or anywhere we can read up on it would be great thanks in advance. How long should it take? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't plug it off, unless you WANT to replace your turbo soon.
Do a Google search for "Juicegrips" if you dont believe me....

You can run either a PPE or Kennedy valve that will allow you to get more boost out of the turbo, or you can run the Banks wastegate.

plugged wastegate on an LB7= kaboom. these turbos will build huge boost and commit suicide. you NEED to regulate a turbocharger. has anyone ever thought of some way to eliminate the up pipe and do an external wastegate??? they do this on cars alot, but ive never seen/heard of it on a diesel. the aftermarket wastegates like the TiAL's are sooooo nice ive dealt with alot of them on cars and they are so easy to command power and boost out of.

2004 Chevy CC/SB LB7 LT3
EFILive, SC Trans w/ 1058 by me, Traction bars and centerlink braces built by me, Custom adjustable stock wastegate, 6 inch custom exhaust, 1792 Lift Pump, Belltech 3" drop shackles, Black H2's w/ Falken 285/60/17s for summer, BFG 315/70/17s for winter, SD sleeves, DiPricol EGT and Boost gauges on the pillar along with an Aeroforce for rail PSI and trans temp, 2 Kicker Comp CVT 10's w/ memphis amp, t-rex full face billet grille,limo tint, .Oh yeah I'm 20 and I built and tuned it myself.

To clarify the reasoning on the necesity of a waste gate, If you had a turbo on your truck that did not need a waste gate, it would be small, you would have very minimal boost and a huge turbo lag. They put larger turbo's obviously for more power and to eliminate lag. If you did not have a wastegate on it, you would have a whole lot of spare parts laying around. Like previously posted, there are safe ways to make more power.

How do you figure any of this? a wastegate is not for a huge power application, wastegates are used all the way down to 7 psi.... it is for CONTROL that is what a wastegate is for. a turbo needs some type of control for boost, whether it be furthered with VVT technology, but all this is a "ceiling" for the turbo. not running a wastegate would not have anything to do with lag, but a turbo could build a ridiculous amount of boost and kill itself, or none at all depending on the application. ive seen both happen.

I know everyones experience is different, but I ran my original turbo on my 02 blocked for over 60,000 miles. It was blocked closed for so long that when I went for a turbo pgrade, the waste gate was froze in the close position.
I was running a 215 Quadzilla tune then. I saw around 32-33 lbs of boost on it's daily spanking. The truck was abused regularly with lots of heavy towing and lot's of trips down the track. That turbo is now on another members truck and is no worse for the wear.
Not saying you should do it, just wanted to share my experience. FWIW.

My point was that its really hard to say what a turbo will do without some sort of control. Its not really ideal, especially on someones daily driver.
