Cracked block

Has anyone ever cracked a block? Is so why or how? I sold a motor a few weeks ago that I believed I had blown the headgaskets in and the buyer just got it torn down and called this morning and said it had cracks 5 places in the block  . I'm at a loss how it happened. I got it really hot when I lost a coolant line but it seems hard to imagine that that would do that much damage.

Thanks

Only blocks I've heard cracked are from hi-power racing/pulling or letting excessive water/coolant and fuel contaminate the oil.

This one had probably a gallon or so of coolant in the oil but only for a couple hundred miles. I caught it pretty quick.

well, a couple hundred miles can do it. That reminds me, I have to go change my oil tomorrow.
