Loss of Power, Fuel Filter?

Driving to work this morning, I asked the truck for just a little getting on the highway (truck was at operating temp and tranny was 120*-130*) and nothing was there. No RPM's, no power, and very very little go.

I dont think it was the trans because there was no RPM's to make it slip. I thought it might be the fuel filter becuase the truck would surge 200-300 RPM's, when the truck would surge, the speed would also surge, the trans wasnt slipping.

After that little episode, I went on cruising 60-63mph and turned off to get to the office, and tried it again. This time I slowly went to about 3/4 throttle. Same thing, felt like it was choked down, no fuel, and slight surging of 200-300 RPM's. It felt fine up to 20-25 MPH then it fell on its face and the RPMs stuck at about 2500.

Does this sound like a fuel filter to you guys?

I have had the truck 20,000 miles and it has not had a new fuel filter on it since I have had it. I will try a new one at lunch and see what happens.

Thanks,
Jamie

Amazing how simple that is, isnt it?

Did you go for KFC, Popeyes or a sit-down restaurant?

I suggest you get an auxilary fuel filter (pre-OEM. you can get a filter head from fleetfilter.com with a filter for like $35. You then just need some fittings and hose. This makes your OEM fuel filter change intervals much longer, and you can the auxilary filter right near the fuel tank and it makes changing it really easy. Hope this helps. I can take pictures of my setup if youd like.

I would go ahead and do the pre filter setup but things with the truck are on hold right now.

I am trying to sell the truck and build a twin turbo dodge, it will be a 03-04 6spd 2wd Dually tow machine.

I change my mind about everyother day. I know Im going to miss the driveability of the Dmax.

Im not going to put anything on or take anything else off the truck until I decide 100%.

An SC III will be next if I decide to keep the truck.

Bac, I topped of my KFC with some Humble Pie, I changed the fuel filter in the Orielly parking lot. If thats not a great way to spend your lunch hour I dont know what is.

I know a Twin Turbo DMax would be a tow monster, and go down the track in 12.5 sec.

Im looking at the cost of the kit and hard parts. I can fab a kit with S400 bottom over the stocker for close to $2000.00. I know my way around the cummins well enough to do it. because of the room and stuff I would pay that in labor for twins on the LB7.

As far as hard parts, The cummins internals can hold 700-800hp and the LB7 will top out "safely" at 500-550hp, with EFI alone.(that I really like)

Smarty, Mp-8, and Flux 2's and there you have it 600hp of fuel.

I also like the 6spd for towing vs the auto.

Like I said Im still up the air and neither one of these projects will be happening all at once.

The thing is that I can throw a tranny in this truck, PPE HOT +2 and, boost valve and have just about the same "balls" with more street speed.

Decisions, Decisions

Yeah, The PPE is the little blue one. It is not adjustable. They are around $35.00 IIRC

Kennedy Diesel sells an adjustable one for around $100 I think.
