When you turn on the AC does the compressor kick in? Could be a switch or relay.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk. Does the light in the AC switch illuminate? There are three or so places where this can go wrong. Is the truck an LT? Those automatic units can have issues inside the sensor. The AC line has another plug mid-stream. I would start by unplugging things; the plug on the compressor then the plug in the line. See if either make difference. If they don't, the actual HVAC control switch may be the problem. I can't remember what the part up in the dash is called but one of my co-workers had his replaced last year on an '04 model with 55K on it.

If you think it's that switch or control unit try to find someone with the same control unit and try theirs. It sounds stupid but that part does go bad. The rotary knobs/switches and sliders can go out. So can the buttons and the actuators. IIRC there are two actuators. Check the switch first.

It takes about 10 minutes. Pull the dash trim piece and a few 7 or 8mm head screws. It unplugs. I really hope it's that control unit. Those can be found on eBay for under $50 sometimes. The actuators are pricey and two hours of labor IIRC.

Oddly enough That has happened on my truck once, I replaced my alternator and both batteries and the first time i drove it that was what happened, I turned on the heater and than it changed to cold air. The next time i started my truck it was back to normal and i havent had any issues since than.
