gmc question?

hello everyone,
quick question for anyone wanting to respond

i am looking into getting a GMC 2500 with the duramax or a cummins (12 or 24 valve). i kinda want a GMC more because of the allison tranny but i have a question.
are there any problems with the GMC's? i know the ally tranny is bulletproof (basically) but are there any problems with the motors? i know there are a few different types or versions available but in general are there any problems with the duramax?

thanks for your help
erik

It really depends on the motor you choose. Some LB7s had injector issues, some LLYs had overheating issues, some LBZs have leaking transmission lines. No one truck is guaranteed to have these problems, but some did have them. All in all the Duramax is a great engine.

What are your plans with the truck? Towing or racing, sled pulling, lifted? There is pros and cons like every veh. Yes the cummins is a great motor, but the actual trucks are usually pretty cheap quality. No company is going to be perfect. I have a duramax, my wife a powerstorke and they have both been great trucks. I org. wanted a cummins but didnt want the payment for the options i wanted. Now i wont part with my duramax. Hands down the best truck i have had.

ya i want the cummins but do i have to take the truck with it?? haha i just want a truck that i can make fast but still be a reliable daily driver. im not goiing to pull or race with it. i mean sure i might take it to the track once in a while but i just want a SUPER FAST daily driver that gets reasonable gas mileage and can smoke a mustang from a stoplight towing a 6 or 7 thousand pound trailer.

A 06'-07' LBZ Duramax with the 6 speed Allison is a good truck. If you don't mind living with DPF a 07.5'-10' LMM are not a bad truck either

The allison can only handle about 90hp of add ons for every day driving. After that it can throw your transmission into limp mode. Some people have pushed the limits and havent had problems yet. Mine wasnt one of them. So untill i build the tranny, 90hp is where ill stay

06-07 LBZ will get you the most power reliably, with either EFI live or PPE xcellerator hot +2, that will get you to around 450-500hp, you will need transmission upgrades and a lift pump to keep the cp3 happy

01-04 LB7 can be made to get the same amount of power, but it takes a little more coaxing
