What do you think of this deal?

I found me an '02 4x4 2500 Duramax with 246K miles, just got new injectors and a new ecm, but now the tranny is slipping... It's forsale for $6500, would this be an alright deal?

Also, what's the power potential and reliability of this truck vs a 24 valve 5.9 cummins in your opinion?

Me:
'06 4x4 2500 QCSB 5.9 - 155,000 miles

Dads:
'11 4x4 3500 MC DRW 6.7 - 55,000 miles
'08 4x4 2500 MC SRW 6.7 - 115,000 miles
'09 4x4 3500 CC DRW 6.6 - 118,000 miles

the LB7 will make more power, much easier than a 24v cummins, with proper maintenance the LB7 should last a long time, $6500 seems ok, maybe try for 6k...

Alright, I'll see how it turns out, don't think I'll have time to go check it out till next weekend so I'll see if it's still available then. My biggest deal is if interior and body is still in good shape here.

Hard to say if it's a deal or not, one thing to think of is your going to be putting money out on a tranny right away. 4 door long bed?

If the truck was never tuned the trans should be fine. But if your planning any power adder on a truck with those miles I agree with fordt, you'll need the trans built.

Not necessarily. What region is it in. Plowing beats the hell out of a trans also. as also lots of heavy towing. Does it look well maintained?

I was looking for future use, since he asked about the power potential.

The guy said the transmission is slipping so I'm pretty sure it's bad... It's in Dallas, TX area, I haven't seen the truck yet and not too good quality pictures either, the guy isn't sending me any new pictures and I haven't had time to go check it out.

Buy it for 6k, and put a suncoast in it, as long as its in fairly good condition.
