Advice on purchasing a 2003

I am looking to get out of my Ford and into a 2003 K2500 (82,000 miles) with the Duramax engine. The dealer is asking $22,900. Crew cab with the works. Can someone give me advice on what to look for? I had the 6L Ford diesel and am sick of blown head gaskets and the $5K price tag to fix them.
Are there similar problems with the chevy diesels? Any common injectors, head gaskets, etc? How do I check that?
Thanks everyone!

You only blow head gaskets on a Duramax if its making big boost. The only thing to check on the '01-'04 LB7 is if/when the injectors have been replaced.

The Duramax uses 6 headbolts per cylinders as opposed to the 4 headbolts per cylinder on the 6.0L powerstroke
The LB7's can be pretty good motors as long as the injectors are good, i would run a VIN check here> but it appears that RIPMF666 hasnt been keeping up with them, you can also post it on this page Its a different forum that you will have to join but they usually take a day or two to return your vinchecks, its very valuable to know what kind of warranty work has been done to your truck before you buy it

03 04 lb7s are great trucks, parts are little cheaper the injectors are larger and flow better just make sure they have been changed to the second gen injectors, the 1st gen 1s stick the lb7 has more compression and less turbo, just replace the headstuds 1 at a time with head studs and boost away,i was running 35 lbs of boost for 3 years and the gasket finaly poped at 165,000.bought another motor with only 2000 miles on it for $2000
