YES THEY SHOULD!!! the 4.5 would be perfect in the suburbans and yukons, where they dont need a big gas pig engine, but want enough power to move the vehicle around easlily

I think i would even convince the gf to get a 1/2 4.5, simply because its a diesel

I was ready to buy one awhile back, then they screwed that up for me. Worked out ok, I ended up with a motorcycle instead.

If they can put a 5.3 into an impala they can put the 4.5 in too

I still think a factory duramax Camaro would be awesome!!

I frankly think that it is foolish to keep this on the shelf. engineering dollars have been spent, so bring it to market allready!

I feel that this would be a perfect tahoe/suburban engine, as folks love the big suvs for their safety and capability, but are not pleases with the mediocre fuel economy of a gas powered mill. a 4.5l duramax and a 6 speed hydra-matic would be a beautiful combination in a SUV.

onto the pickups, many people drive pickups. in the half-ton segment, these folks may be city dwellers that buy a truck for the safety factor, or the all season versatility, or the people that work these trucks on a farm, ranch, or construction site. One thing that they have in common is that nearly all folks that buy a truck buy it for a reason. similar to the SUV market, people love these vehicles and will continue to buy them for a long time, and would welcome a jump in fuel efficiency that would be provided by the 4.5L duramax.

since the last diesel suburban and diesel half ton in the GMT400 body style, people have been hoping and waiting for GM to return them to market. Lets get going GM!

The competition might come in 2011

US: New V8 diesels to surface in 2011
By: John Mortimer, Friday, January 07, 2011, AutomotiveWorld.com

Rumours abound in the US that two Ďdoomedí diesel engines will come to life in 2011.Cummins is set to supply 5.0-litre V8 diesel engines to Chrysler for fitment to the Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up, while General Motors will bring to life its 4.5-litre Duramax V8 diesel for pick-up use.

Dodge Ram dealers are mystified that a 2011 5.0-litre Ram 1500 with a two-mode hybrid transmission has appeared in their vehicle ordering system. Sources suggest that while the Ram 1500 was not officially cancelled, neither has Chrysler officially committed to it.

In 2009, during Chryslerís bankruptcy proceedings, a Cummins spokesman admitted that while Chryslerís initial contract with Cummins was dead, the programme itself had not died, suggesting Cummins was still working on the engine programme.

The new Duramax V8 is reportedly heading for some GM pick-ups as well as possible large-car applications. The engine can improve fuel economy by 25% and CO2 by 13%. The engine reputedly delivers 310bhp and 520lb ft torque.

Both Cumminsís 4.5-litre V8 and GMís Duramax turbocharged diesel engines feature compacted graphite iron (CGI) cylinder blocks
------------
I hope that this rumour is going into reality

The Ford Chihuahua-plant has reportedly a capacity of 400.000 annual 4.4-liter diesels that for the moment is produced at a low rate at 30.000/year for Land Rover. A good competion in the US might speed up the production.

I wish they'd hurry up already and get on with it. I'd love to put a Duramax in an Avanlanche but it'd be even better if it came stock with one...

I wonder if Ford will step up on its 4.4L diesel since there is new buzz about the other two.
