The 4.5l Duramax is based off the knowledge learned from the Isuzu/GM 7.8L and 6.6L Duramax. Like high pressure common rail fuel injection, compacted Iron-graphite engine blocks, Variable Geometry Turbos. They're hoping to shake off the old thoughts that lightweight diesels are awful. The 5.0L Cummins and the 4.4L Ford are also trying to shake that though process when they get released. We can argue about past failures and blind eye turnings till the cows come home, but this will be a rejuvenation of lightweight diesels when this motor comes out.

IF/WHEN it comes out my brother... does anyone have any info yet? are they ever going to release it?? i mean they have them developed, they have the tooling, they could be producing them tommorow if they needed to, and i know there are a lot of people who would love a diesel but dont need a 3/4 or 1ton... diesels are the thing of the future, not the past, gasoline motors are things of the dinosaurs.... I think i want a 1/2ton diesel in the future, i hope these guys get off their butts and put one out there!

I'm really hoping a half ton diesel makes it to the market from one of the big 3. I don't really need a 3/4 ton truck, but I won't sell it either, too much invested already. I'd just like a 1/2 ton diesel for the mileage and to to my truck to events, I'd call it the wifes vehicle and just use it more then her

to tell you the truth i kind of doubt i will ever buy another gas truck, ive owned two diesels now and a gas has no alure to me, they're so damn boring... i mean i dont know any gas engines that you can simply change the tuning and make 500hp.... to get 500hp out of a gas you have to change a hell of a lot of things and spend a bunch more cash to do it as well...

you retune my 6.5 and see if you get 500hp I would love to see it. . .

heck i'd love to see any pick up truck diesel hit 500hp without 1 bolt on part no chips no turbos No add on parts nothing but retuning whats there

some how i just dont think its that easy its by far easier then a Gas engine sure but its not as easy as you make it sound. . .

Tho my AMX's engine was rated at 435hp n 480tq but it really made 485hp n 492tq and that is a gas engine i am sure i could get extra 15hp out it in seconds . . . prolly even break the 500tq mark as well as the 500hp mark . . . But why its only a 2,800# car . . .I'm almost sure it'll run faster then your 500hp diesel.

My 1953 Studebaker M275 will easily out pull your 500hp diesel pick up truck you'll send your tires up in smoke while i drag you all over the place in low gear . . .

But if its diesel fun you want i am sure my lil 315hp Mack will twist your truck around it's self in seconds. . .

with your truck being GM i am sire my Ford Gasser wouldn't mind towing whats left of your truck home for you, i have No doubts my 62' GMC could also drag ya around tho it my have to grunt a bit harder then the stude. . .

I got CASH ? got INSURANCE ? I have a crashing plant at my disposal i can gladly recycle your rig for you even. . .

wow your going 10 directions at once there bud, if you dont like what i drive thats fine, dont expect me to run out and buy a 50 year old truck take your pessimism somewhere else, as for it being easier to get 500hp out of my modern diesel? heck yes it is, EFI live is all you need

you can keep your 8 vehicles, i dont need them, i can only drive one at at time, might as well make it worth while.. and heated leather seats are damn comfy

i wouldnt say its a beast, its only stock, you have a group of vehicles that perform tasks that you require, i dont have any tasks that need that kind of doing, i daily drive my rig, and it does whatever i ask of it, no problems at all from it

i have one other vehicle thats insured and its an 86 merc capri, its basically useless because it doesnt have a block heater, and it doesnt have AC, so its only good for fall and spring my toy

Im really interested in the 4.5 because the GF is going to be looking for a newer vehicle in the next few years and she wants a Mitsu Lancer, but im in love with diesels and she wouldnt mind having a Pickup, im almost positive that if she got the chance she would drive mine all the time.. but the 4.5 in a 1/2ton, its like a car with a box and a 310hp torque monster that gets 20+mpgs
