4.5L Duramax

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/15/g...the-hummer-h2/

Looks like GM may FINALLY be listening to the public! A legitimate diesel engine option for 1/2ton pickups and SUVs is a major breakthrough, IMO.

Also, a Hi-res pic of the engine can be found here

"despite sharing its name with the older 6.6L Duramax diesel that was developed in partnership with Isuzu, the new 4.5L Duramax was developed completely in-house by GM."
isuzu make great diesels and im suprised gm is doing this alone.
sounds interesting, but im not sure you need a v8 configuration.
what would be wrong with a v6 or i6 configuration?
less moving parts and things to wear out.
i think its more about marketing and the fact v8 sounds cooler than v6 .
btw good find bac

Late next summer.....15 months!!!! That ain't too bad, least Toyota didn't beat us to the punch.

You know, this is nothing new for GM. They offered diesels in 1/2 ton trucks 25 years ago. Nobody bought them. Somehow, I think THIS time is gonna be MUCH different!

1996 Gmc k2500 4x4 6.5 turbo diesel, with mods Blew the head gasket, put all new heads, valves, injecotrs gaskets etc on the truck only to get it together and find out it had no oil pressure, and sounded horrible (pry a spun bearing). SOLD

26mpg in a pickup truck would be a huge improvement over what GM 1/2 ton gassers get right now. I just hope GM doesn't get greedy and charge $10,000 extra for the option. They need to make it a viable choice for customers.

I thought they were saying a "25% improvement in fuel economy"?

If the average 1/2 ton gasser gets ~12 MPG around town/~18 MPG highway , that would mean the diesel would get ~15 in town/ ~23 highway.
