manual?

I assume that all these 4.5L s GM makes will all have auto trannys? Seems GM has given up on manuals.

I am skeptical about this new development ; though i know it must happen. I cannot trust GM to get anything right the first time, or even the second.
they design and build by committee.
I just bought my first Dmax -what a joke this truck is--expensive joke.
except for the ride, it is inferior to everything out there. in economy, and durability (mine has totaled 4 weeks in the shop so far and it needs to go back.).
and another question .
Why did not GM rely on the Exceptional talents at Detroit Diesel who, hands down build the finest diesels in the world and instead go along with Isuzu? Gm owned Detroit for years the choice should be obvious.
How i would love to see a detroit series 30 or 40 long life sleeved motor inline six in a GM pickup.
something with power, economy, and and longevity. it would kick the butt of cummins which has always been inferior to either Cat ,Isuzu or detroit, in the large engines and would be inferior in the pickup class if other majors took the market seriously and built an inline design for the small truck.
another thing, this engieering development for the small v8 is but piss in a bucket with the six or a 5 cylinder none of this fancy routing of air would be necessary and there is room left over under the hood.


Ever since the majors went from the inline six, the motors have not been as good.

The dt 466 and 360: infinitely superior to the powerjoke and Isuzu's 6's are indestructible; literally if they have oil and water they will run forever.

as for this new 4.5? forget it, you can have it, it will be a basket of problems for the first years at least and never live up to the potential of an inline design.

I read in a truck magazine that Dodge is going to be introducing a 1/2 ton model with a "Baby Cummins". The mag didn't give any specs on the engine but did say the truck will be available in 2010. I bleed blue, but the make over they (Dodge) have done for the 09 1/2 ton and the idea of a baby Cummins in 2010 has caught my attention!
This 4.5 Dmax sounds like it could be the cats ***** also! I very much so dislike the looks of the new Chevy trucks. The GMC Sierra CC sure looks good though. I could swing that way when these 4.5s come out.

1999.5 PSD, 4x4, Auto trans, 6.0 Trans cooler, ZooDad Mod, ISSPRO Trans - boost - EGT gauges, Wicked Wheel, 5inch Stainless tip, 315 75 17 BFG AT's, ProComp 9000's at the corners, Fumatomo Valve, Pooned tank, DP Tuner F5 w/ 80 tow, 80 econo, 120 race and permagrin!

what did you drive before your duramax? how come you didnt' stick with what you had before? what are you breaking on the duramax? I do also agree Gm makes a weak truck, but the motor from my standpoint is very strong, the allison, not so much.

its kind of expensive to develop a new light duty engine for a pick-up, i really doubt that detroit would bite on that one, besides the duramax has really proven its self over the last 7 years to be fairly reliable, you must have picked up one of the lemons...

I have a 1997 GMC half-ton with a 4.3L V6. Can I replace that engine with a diesel engine? I live in California and there could be some law that I don't know about that could stop me from doing this. Also, what are your thoughts on biodiesel??

hmmmm i think getting a hold of one of the 4.5's will be pretty difficult and im guessing verrry expensive, plus there's the cost of fabricating everything to work together, you would also need the transmission just due to the fact that it would be designed to handle the torque that the 4.5 will put out, if you meant replacing it with something else like a 6.5L that might be more in your ball park.... not to stomp all over your ideas you just wouldnt catch me doing it is all

as for biodiesel, i hear its good stuff, better for your engine than dino stuff, has better lubricity and better for the air, and no im not a tree hugger, im just thinkin of the kiddies...lol
