If you don't want to do it yourself, take it to a transmission shop and have them go through the system. If you want to tackle this yourself, first check the transmission lines for kinks or pinches. Then comes the dirty part, change the filter, if that doesn't help its time to start taking things apart.

What kit was put in it? Are these temps high while the converter is locked or unlocked? What is the outside air temp when this happens? 100 degrees above ambient is completely normal. So on a 90 degree day 190 is the expected temp to see for trans temp. If you had a stage 4 or 5 kit with the pump shim or something else to boost the line pressure, then higher temps are the norm. Beings you have an 02 a larger tranny cooler isn't that expensive to add on as 01-early 03 used 1/2" pipe tap for the cooler fittings and a B&M supercooler will drop right in with minimal modifications.

ive changed filters...n fluids...it has suncoast clutchs, transgo shift kit, n a hd single disc precision converter...it takes a lil more time to get hot with the deep pan but it still gets to 200 to 210 on highway cruisin at 65 70...n it doesnt matter what temp it is outside from 70 -105 the trans will still hit 200+

I take it you bought from the guy on Ebay? Suncoast doesn't build clutches in house, they buy from ALTO(not sure who is making the new GMAX clutches, but I think it is ALTO also). And the PRECISION that most DURAMAX guys want is the PRECISION INDUSTRIES of Tennessee, and they only build triple disc units.

I think that you need a good air filter turfin8705. I think there are good products that can you efficiently so that the car will not get hot again.

My thoughts exactly...

If it is one of the 'ebay transmissions, then its not a SC kit at all. The single disc converters are garbage too, good for stock power only as they are not warrantied if you use it like you want to use a built trans, ex, not covered for racing, towing, or sled pulling.

But, the first thing I would check is the fluid lvl, if its too full it will run hot. Get the trans up to 170-180* and check the fluid lvl. It should be about half way up the hot mark on the dipstick. If it is higher then that then drain some fluid until it is to that point.

If that don't work, its time to step up to a larger trans cooler.
